BPMA, invites students to get creative

Following last years successful launch in 2010, the BPMA ( British Promotional Merchandise Association) has announced its second national student design competition, focused on the on the promotional merchandise industry. Last year they had over 120 enteries, with some truly creative ideas, This year the winners will see their designs worked up into prototypes. The competition is sponsored by 3M, and supported by Will international and design agency Pepagon. I will be keeping an eye on whats going on within the competition, and look forward to seeing some of the potential "next best promotional ideas" being put forward, good luck all!. Doubled our floor space and capacity

HI All and a Happy new year !!, its been very exciting for us here at T King Associates, we have now taken on a new unit and doubled our floor space, it has been getting tighter and tighter in the old unit, and we decided that we should take the step to improve and make things work and flow easier. We have a new showroom space, and also larger production and storage space, so we can keep more stock, have a higher volume of stock movement that will ultimately benefit our customers.

The show room will be updated over the coming months so you can come and try things on, and generally have a good poke about.

New Eco-Uniform is an industry first for David Luke

One of T King Associates School wear suppliers David Luke are doing their bit to save the planet with their new Eco-Uniform school jackets for boys and girls. Hailed as a school wear first, the new jackets are made from 100% recycled, non-biodegradable plastic from drinking bottles, which would otherwise go to landfill. Compared to an equal quantity of traditionally manufactured oil-based fabric, the 100% recycled de/repolymerized material used by David Luke requires 84% less energy to produce it. This in these current times can only be a good thing and TKA will be looking into the product shortly and reporting back to customers and users alike

promotional T-shirts good the bad and the ugly

I know it's the middle of an early winter but as sad as I am, I am already thinking how the recent cotton price increases, and general increase in cost of well lets be honest most things, is going to have an effect on the humble promotional T-shirt. We have for at least 20 years printed our T-shirts, from a basic give away for a day promotion, to T-shirts for events and blue chip clients looking to get people wearing their brand over the longer period.

It's worth remembering the following, if you print onto the cheapest poor quality shirt, it will not last more that 5 minutes before it is destined to be a car washing rag. In every situation I can possibly think of it as always worth raising the quality and lowering the run length to compensate, because even if you run 100 shirts of good quality people will wear them and keep them for longer, and its also worth investing in a good designer to pull the job together. The whole point of your shirt is to get your brand / message across long after the day you gave it to your customer or visitor.

Charles Kendall safety clothing

We have for many years, supplied safety wear, and clothing needed for factory, warehouse, industrial use, but never really had the chance to see our safety clothing in action. But that all changed recently, when we supplied, printed and delivered all the safety clothing Charles Kendall Group. They required Hi-Visibility, waist coats, bomber and yard / 3/4 length jackets, with the new corporate brand printed as per the specification outlined. The clothing needed to meet all health and safety requirments, and are all up to standard from us, we only suppliy Hi visibility safety wear to class two or above EN471. We have a number of ways to brand hi visibility workwear, we can screen print, as we did in this case with Charles Kendall, or we can dye the fabric, or we can also embroider, all of which we can do in house.

Note the sprcification on the vests EN471 Class2 Approved Confirming to 89/686/EEC Directive, 2 band bib and brace reflective 50mm wide strips stitched onto garment with a velcro fastening.

Specification for the two jackets bomber and Traffic / yard jacket, EN471 Class 3 approved confirming to 89/686/EEC Directive, waterproof taped seams, 2 retro reflective strips 50mm wide stitched on to arms and body of jacket, conceled hood in collar, phone pocket, studded storm flaps, padded and lined.

We are very greatful for the shots from Charles Kendall as, all the garments were sampled prior to the order being put in place, and were very greatful to recive a call from the team to say how pleased they are with the clothing we supplied.

Happy new year, seems the roads and country is coming to a halt again with the snow and bad weather. I have been for a while working on selecting the best range of boots we can stock here in Buckingham near Milton Keynes.

Well we finally updated some of our print kit, I have been looking for some time at what is avalible on the market, and considered what would be the best solution for our clients needs, and to give us a more diverse offering to clients. We decided to go with Xpres transfer systems http://www.xpres.co.uk/ for two main reasons, 1 the finish of the print product is second to none, and 2 the full colour transfers will wash and survive upto 80c washes, which means we can use this system reliably in our work wear offering , and also suppliy the short run T-shirt or any garment market with a reliable permanent decoration, and because of the simplicity of the system is very cost effective, which means we can offer good quality garment decoration, fast turn around and know it will last, which is more than can be said for other offerings out there on the market, the direct to garment machines were considered, and on paper seem very simple, but Ithink the tecnology has further to progress, and work as it sounds, their are specialists that know this technology well and we have access to their trade suppliy, so when a job arises that is more suited to this system we can still have this avalible.

So this year we have invested in four new embroidery machines, new cad transfer systems, and full colour transfer systems, also having our staff trained in the operation and software, we have samples readily avalible, and have already started to suppliy with fantastic results the print, and also to very short lead times.

We are also constainly investing in our order processing software, and this is currently being updated, we had this system made bespoke with our own programmer, because we wanted full control of the functionality, ease of use and be able to modify quickly for our customers needs, which is proving to have been a wise move in the workwear and promotional markets.

Hi Visability Printing Vests Jackets

We have for some time now used Dye sublimation to print the workwear Hi Visability that we supply to our customers be it Scaffolders, builders or road working maintenance teams. The reason I bring this up is the quality of finish that is produced on the Hi Vis workwear, becuase of the nature of dye sub printing ( I wont bore you with the tecnicalities) it dyes the print colours into the fabric, which means the print onto the hi vis clothing is permenant, will not crack or fade, and washes really well. It is also very good for short run printing of Hi Visability workwear, the use of dye sublimation also works on 100's of other items, from various clothing to mugs, special coated metal for name plaques, bags, caps, mouse mats the list is growing day by day, the print is generally full colour, and give a photo image finish if required. We generally use it only for the workwear printing but also print the T-shirts, polo shirts with it as well. Install of new Machines

Well we have finally had the delivery today, 4 new toyota 9100 embroidery machines, and the latest Wilcom software. We decided at the end of last year to upgrade our old machines as they were getting on and have worked hard for us over the years. The installation took one day and as I speak I can hear the embroidery machines running, our decision to go with the Toyota machines was a simple one, we have had them for many years and have always felt that the service, reliability and speed has always been high, plus the quality of finished work is better than I have seen from many other manufacturers machines. We also have always worked with a modular system purley so it gives us a totally flexible machine room, and if one machine breaks down or we need an urgent swatch the other machines can carry on with other jobs. The Wilcom software update is a welcome addition to our portfolio, it has been recently released with intergration onto Corel Draw, which means we can interlock print and embroidery or use your same artwork from embroidery or print without any problems.

Tuff stuff work trousers

I did also say I would be wearing the Trousers, from the new year onwards and I am glad to say I have been, they seem to be comfortable, well made, wash well and above all I get people commenting on how good they look and they would love to use them as well, the one thing that the trousers really impress on is the price under £25.00 for what I can only desribe as a fantastic tough work trouser, will report more on the work trousers once I have washed them more and generally abused them as best I can !

As is always the way at this time of year the corporate, workwear, and promotional industry refreshes its ranges for the new year with new catolouges and product lines. One that I have seen develop over the years is Kustom Kit, they have for this year amongst others released the Bar Gear range, this is aimed soley at the hospitality industry, having 1.7 million people employed and a worth of £55-£60 millon per year you can see why they have developed it. The range fashonable yet fuctional with tailoring specifically aimed at the hospitality sector, with stretch fabrics providing greater comfort and fit. T King Associates Ltd will be listing the range in our new catolouge for 09 and will get the range on line shortly, we have used Kustom Kit for a number of years and always had good feedback, they always embroider / print well and have a great finish.
